At age eleven I told my parents, “I want to become a pastor!” Little did I know what that would mean, yet the journey was underway. Growing up in Stanley Wisconsin, then onto Augsburg College and Luther Seminary. During college, I met Sara Palmgren. We married in 1971. Sara was an elementary and library education major at Augsburg and began her teaching career immediately out of college.
Ministry began for me, as many young seminary grads back in the day, as an associate pastor focusing on youth ministry. It was a great beginning, having an opportunity to serve and learn from a wonderful congregation and a fine lead pastor. Then lets zoom — Houston and Red Wing, Minnesota, and a long term ministry of nearly 15 years with Zumbro Lutheran, four blocks from Mayo Clinic in Rochester. All of this before receiving a phone call from the Bishop of our Grand Canyon Synod on a cold day in February 2008, regarding American Lutheran Church in Sun City. As they say, the rest is history serving that wonderful congregation for ten years.
Sara and I have lived in Sun City Grand since early 2009, and now are thrilled to have an opportunity to become engaged in the SOG community. Pastor Scott brings a fine spirit of faith and leadership to SOG, and I look forward to partnering with him, the staff, leadership, and the entire congregation.
We have two married daughters, two grandchildren—one family in Minneapolis, Minnesota and one family in Springfield Ohio.
